03/25/2024 - Last Dance - Episode 007

Today's show was put together along with my close friend Jacob Sotak while snowed in at his house in Vermont. It started with a tune I heard at another friend's house, Last Dance by Rhye, which took us to a journey to the source of its groove- the one and only Curtis Mayfield. We followed Curtis Mayfield's influence through his production work and samples to one of his musicians, Donny Hathaway, and his incredible 1971 Live album, before traveling back to the 1930's via The Beatles and Gangstarr to see how George Gershwin's score to Porgy and Bess has resonated across doo wop, jazz, and the crunchy psychedelic rock of Big Brother & The Holding Company.
